Gratitude

It is my blog’s first Thanksgiving.  In the spirit of the season, I have made of list of 10 of my favorite quotes about gratitude.  I can’t, in all honesty, say that I achieve every principle expressed in the words that follow every day of my life.  Still, I believe that they articulate a set of beliefs that, if consistently put into action, lead to a more fulfilling existence.

And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.

Colossians 3:15

As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.
John F. Kennedy

'Thank you' is the best prayer that anyone could say.  I say that one a lot.  Thank you expresses extreme gratitude, humility, understanding.
Alice Walker

For me, every hour is grace.  And I feel gratitude in my heart each time I can meet someone and look at his or her smile.
Elie Wiesel

Gratitude is not only the greatest of virtues, but the parent of all the others.
Marcus Tullius Cicero

It is through gratitude for the present moment that the spiritual dimension of life opens up.
Eckhart Tolle

At the age of 18, I made up my mind to never have another bad day in my life.  I dove into an endless sea of gratitude from which I've never emerged.
Patch Adams

The best way to show my gratitude to God is to accept everything, even my problems, with joy.
Mother Teresa

Gratitude turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos into order, confusion into clarity...it makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.
Melody Beattie

You say grace before meals. All right. But I say grace before the concert and the opera, and grace before the play and pantomime, and grace before I open a book, and grace before sketching, painting, swimming, fencing, boxing, walking, playing, dancing and grace before I dip the pen in the ink.
G.K. Chesterton

Have a Happy Thanksgiving.
