A Story With a Twist or Two

What happens when a very hungry lion ends up in the same room with an assortment of small mammals and amphibians. The answer might surprise you, or not, wait, maybe…

A Hungry Lion or A Dwindling Assortment of Animals keeps the reader guessing right to the end. Funny and charming in a dark kind of way, it tells the story of a lion in a room with a group of animals who keep disappearing. The reader is left to infer what is happening to them until only one is left and then….the first twist.

The artwork is simple, subversive and adds to the dark humor. The cute assortment of animals do not look at all concerned about being in the same room with a hungry lion until…well…you will have to read it.

The book has a dark theme, so it might not be suitable for younger children. Older children will find it fun trying to figure out what is happening and will enjoy being surprised by the twists at the end.

Teachers can use this book to teach inference and making predictions. It is also an example of a book written to entertain (author’s purpose).

See you next Wednesday!
